PFNS will be involved in WP1 on investigating the possibilities to reduce aflatoxin contamination in maize through 1) genetics (drought resistance, early maturity), and 2) biocontrol for aflatoxins in maize. Besides organising the field experiments in two localities in Serbia with different hybrids and environmental conditions, PFNS will perform the determination of aflatoxin concentrations in contaminated maize. Prof. Ferenc Bagi will be involved in the RTD work as the Deputy leader of WP1. Dr. Bagi is associated professor and project manager on phytopathology and plant toxins at PFNS. He has background in agronomy with more than 20 years of experience in science and education. The main scientific areas of his work are mycotoxigenic fungi and mycotoxins. During 2013-14 he was also Director of Plant Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia and secretary of the negotiation legislation in cooperation with the EU in the area of Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy (Chapter 12 in EU-Serbia negotiation). He has published 180 scientific articles.
